Assignments are to be planned so they will serve one or more of the following purposes:
- Help fix concepts introduced in school.
- Overcome a deficiency in a specific area.
- Make up work lost due to absence.
- Enrich the basic areas of the curriculum.
- Provide ESSENTIAL practice in needed skills.
- Help pupils establish good work habits.
- Encourage selfdirection.
- Learn to budget time.
- Encourage students to use outofschool resources.
- Promote growth in responsibility.
- It is required that homework be a consistent part of your lesson planning and assigned at least 3-4 times a week.
Criteria of Homework Assignments:
- Does it serve a valid purpose?
- Is it within the capabilities of the student?
- Has the class been properly motivated?
- Does the assignment grow out of an experience at school?
- Is the work adapted to individual needs, interests and capacities?
- Can the students do the work without the assistance of parents or others?
- Is the assignment a reasonable one in view of the pupil's home condition?
- Does the assignment minimize the temptation merely to copy information?
